Woodminster Waterfall - Joaquin Miller Park - Oakland, CA
On the morning of February 25, 2013, while hiking down the Upper Yosemite Falls Trail, I heard something unlike anything I'd ever heard before coming from the trail below. Soon, I came upon a small group of hikers who had just witnessed this bobcat taking down a deer in the middle of the trail. No one could walk by, so I quickly pulled out my 400mm lens, and from a relatively safe distance, began photographing this rarely seen event. This incredibly beautiful cat allowed us to quietly sit and observe while it gracefully pulled the deer off the trail and allowed us to pass. Such an honor and privilege it was to see this elusive wild cat in broad daylight, and the fact that it all occurred on my 43rd birthday made it feel even more like a special gift.
Oakland – San Francisco Bay Area Twilight (Super-HD Panorama 1:4). Extremely dense smoke particles from a massive grass fire that occurred about 50 miles north-east earlier in the day, are what made this beautiful red twilight possible. 10 vertical images (each 21 megapixels) were photographed with a 400mm lens from high above the city in the Oakland Hills, then digitally stitched to create this “Super-HD Panorama” of the entire Oakland / San Francisco Bay Area. The original image (from which all prints are generated) weighs in at 22,304 x 5576 pixels/300dpi, making it possible to be printed up to eight feet in length without any loss of detail.
